Hi, I m now on confinement. I have take the meal cook with the liquor (Martell , red wine) and jz drink DOM since the first day    my baby born. I scare to BF my baby bcoz it will p*ss to baby thru BF. Doctor oso advice not to take more wine if I BF. So i jz gv my baby drink formula milk. I hope can BF my baby after confinement but I worry my breastmilk will stop if no BF always.

Is the breastmilk will really stop if I no BF long time? My MIL ask me to BF my baby..

Please advice, thanks you...
hi penny,
if you dont nurse your baby now, your supply will slowly dry up. demand = supply. the more you put baby to your breast, the more your body will know it need to produce milk for your baby. another issue will be cos you already introduce bottle to your baby, he/she might not want to nurse from you cos the way bb drink from bottle & nurse from you is different (your baby might have n*ppl* confusion).

if you really want to BF your bb, start putting baby back to your breast & feed on demand.

as for alcohol, make sure it's boiled (so that alcohol have evaporated) OR you take AFTER you feed your baby OR wait at least 2 hours after you take then only feed your baby. i personally didnt take much alcohol during confinement cos i was afraid it'll affect my baby.

if you still dont feel comfortable, you can do what magarita said - pump. pump around the time your baby feed (eg every 2/3 hours) & discard the milk (since you are afraid of alcohol affecting your baby, keeping it is no point. i personally find it a bit wasteful cos every drop is like liquid gold!)

good luck!

Hi Penny, do you mean that you completely didn't bf now and plan to bf only after confinement? Have you been pumping bm and store then? I think you have to continuously simulate breast milk production, else it will fade away and completely stop. Better pump out bm even if not bf bb directly...to maintain the bm production.

My O&G adviced me not to take liquor. Even if it's cooked cause it will indirectly p*ss on to my baby if i'm breastfeeding. I breastfed till my baby is 4 months old. the nurses asked me to take more garlic. it will helps to produce more milk and reduce wind.

Hi shiuh pey,
it is advisable not to take any liquor if you are bf. However, if the liquor is cook together with your food, it can be taken.
if u r saying drinking the liquor straight from the bottle, i read in the book that the liquor will p*ss to bb tru bf.
dear ai ping

thank you for your kind reply.

i will convey this message to my sister. but, for myself, i normally will drink the liquor (wong chau kai) after cooking. as for lum chow, i drank it after my 2nd baby has been discharged from the hospital (and by that time, i already stopped bf). so, when i am at home, i only concentrate in formula milk.

cheers

my dear friends,

kindly *ssist me on this:

my sister is going to give birth soon and, she is wondering whether liquor (such as loh mai chau (rice liquor) or any types) has any side effect to the breast feeding baby?

she intends to breastfeed her baby and at the same time to take-in the intake of liquor as much as she could (the purpose is just to jaga her badan like what older people alway say, 'during confinement, must really take care in order to avoid from masuk angin')?

i can't give her any suggestion as for me, my 1st child was on caesarean. so, i didn't give her enough breast milk coz my mum advice is to give her a formula milk in order for me to take good care of my wound & also to get enough rest.

then, come to my 2nd child, she has a very bad jaundice till needs to do a blood transfusion. well, during this period, i have noticed that whenever i feed her with breast milk, the result is no good till a patient (also a nurse) adviced me to either stop taking the liquor (lor mai chow or lam chau, etc) or to give her formula milk. that is why i have to stop breast feeding and concentrate in giving formula milk.

so, what is your opinions on this?

please advice furhter, thank you
