looks like this baby is going to be a million-dollar cny baby. some CL says they will work, but after the first 3 days of cny or maybe after the 7th.
cny is indeed a big thing for chinese.

Yes, I am afraid thats what I heard from my CL. They normally charged double during CNY because not many CL want to accept job during CNY so their service become expensive.
Furthermore, most CLs are with grown-up children so they will be away from family and will miss the CNY family reunion, etc. hence the higher charge.
But I guess u can try to negotiate...just my thoughts. |

Hi, today is my last day in confinement. My CL is from Kedah but she also does confinement in Penang and KL as well. I am very satisfied with her because she is hardworking, experience and reliable. She taught me a lot of things because I am a new mother. Her cooking is good and she also helps with house chores when my bb and myself are resting.
My bb is quite demanding as he cries or fidgets like almost every half an hour during night time. What I like most about my CL is she never complain even though she only get to sleep very little at night; and she still work hard during day time.
I know she is booked until Dec 08, so you can try contact her at 019-4734991 to ask her availability in April 09. We just call her auntie. She charged us RM2.8k for 1 month confinement. We are staying in Bukit Jalil. |

Wow, that is really very cheap le. I gotta choose this woman coz she's same hometown as me. During confinement will need her to go pasar and buy stuffs to cook herself. I can't go out, mil old and leg pain so wouldn't want her to go out buy for me, husband gotta work. The cl who ffk me recommend a cl from KL, but I said no, coz she won't know how to go pasar at my hometown herself, need ppl fetch, then is troublesome.
During confinement, how is the sleep arrangement? Coz currently I plan to sleep with bb on bed, and cl on mattress on floor. Husband kicked out of the room. Maybe is such arrangement, both my mum and husband think will be too tiring for me and cl can sleep till next day. What arrangement would be better? bb sleep with cl in another room? Please advise....thanks...

So during weekend, hubby will fetch CL go market to buy 1 week supply.

Thanks lovsweet, but my EDD is 1st Nov 2008, so is 8 weeks away only. I already confirmed using the CL I found at hometown. Mil and sil kept nagging saying it's expensive, bla bla bla, but I said that's the price the CL charges even for working at KL, not just coz I engage her last minute. Plus, I got ffk 2 mths+ before having to give birth, it's so late to find another one already...Those that mil and sil tried to contact all already booked. Wherever husband goes, he got asked if we found CL already or not, and once he told, people will comment 'wah, so expensive', bla bla bla...Well it's really none of their business, and to me, right now what I need most is the *ssurance that the CL will surely do for me, that's all, coz really too late to choose and choose again. I explained to husband to ignore what other ppl say, I asked him if he thinks is ok if it's RM2.9k for 28 days? and he said it seems ok, so I said what is the big deal with the RM 100 extra??? He said is coz ppl around him kept commenting it's expensive that makes him think it's expensive..Sigh..so fan la ppl around...
Lovsweet, I will surely remember to contact you to get the CL for confinement of next bb..hehe..Will she be willing to work for same price at Pahang? about 1hr from KL only... |

Those mommies who got maids.
Can i know if got maid, why still need to hire confinement lady? Maid can do the cooking, housework, m*ssage, diapering baby and can help to boil bath water. I think confinement food is not difficult!
Another suggestion, if breastfeeding at night, why not hire confinement lady for day time only. Got day time confinement lady or not in the market. With this, no worry on CL so senang..
During my confinement, cooking by MIL and helping by my maid. MIL cook simple recipe. My mum cook pork leg vinegar once only and last for few days.. Sometime, cooking done by maid. Baby bath by MIL. Marketing by anyone and mostly MIL and herbs by my MUM. I boiled the bath water on my own and sometime my maid do it. I put a portable stove and big pot in my bath room. Ask DH to buy small gas for the portable stove. Night time, DH and myself jaga baby. |

Wow... the scenario is just like mine. I am doing my confinement now. And thanks god, my CL is so far so good. Anyway, i sleep with my BB & CL sleep on the floor. My husband & my elder daughter sleep in another room. To tell u the truth, if you decided to BF your BB, your CL is definitely have a peace of sleep & more relax if compared to you.
Averagely i only sleep for 3-4 hours/day. Imagine i can still hear the CL snoring every night :P Most of the BB not really wake up every 2 hours. My BB sometimes can wake up every hour / every half an hour. Especially during the 1st week. Cos my milk was so little, under supply. So, my BB tends to wake up very frequently to ask for milk. Now im on my 2nd week, milk flow is getting better, but yet he still wakes up quite frequently... maybe he wans to smell the mommy's milk or just for s*cking-lah.
Somemore i have a maid... my CL lagi 'senang'. But what to do...this is our choice. Especially if you choose to sleep with the BB, you will sure get less rest & sleep less. Unless you let the BB sleep with the CL in another room, then middle of the night u pump your milk out & let the CL to feed the BM from the bottle. But i can't do that, cos i dun really 100% trust a stranger to take care of my precious. I would not know what she do in the room with my BB.
Anyway....if you didn't sleep well at night, try to take a nap in the afternoon. This will help.

I gave birth 2 mths ago and my CL cost me RM3k for 28 days. And that did not include ang pow yet! The market price for CL in Klang Valley ranges from RM2.8 to RM3k. During confinement mth, which I had in my own home, my hubby & CL went to the market every weekend for the marketing. In addition to the basic CL duties, she also cooked extra for my toddler and hubby. And she helped to mop the floor daily (which was not very clean!).
I also breastfeed my baby. So, like you said, the CL had many peaceful nights, whereas I had to wake up every 2 hours to breastfeed. I understand your husband when he made that remark about CL so free; but it is a choice we have made to breastfeed, ma. As for the sleeping arrangement, I can see you have 2 options, depending on the availability of rooms in your house. You can have your baby sleeps with CL. When baby wakes up for feeding, get the CL to carry baby to you, which you will breastfeed in lying down position. This way, you can rest as well. Sometimes baby may need diaper change in the middle of the night. This way, the CL can do the job. Another option is CL, baby and you sleep in one room. This way, your husband will have peaceful sleeping nights. You can breastfeed baby whenever she wakes and leave all the "other works" to CL. Whicever options, make sure you rest/sleep in the daytime when baby sleeps.
About you mum's "demotivating" words, I can understand well enough bcoz that's exactly what happened to me for my 1st child confinement. Due to my own ignorance, lack of knowledge on bf and no support (plus "demotivating" words from mum), I was not able to breastfeed for my 1st child. But thinking further now, I can understand that our mums only care for us and wanted the best for us. And most of the people around their ages (their generation) do not know and understand the benefits and importance of bf. So, naturally, they do not support us. We can only try to explain to (or educate?) them and make the best out of our situations.
Anyway take care and good luck with your delivery & confinement.

I plan to bf, so will also bf in the middle of night, then mum complain 1 thing, saying surely I won't be able to get enough rest since have to get up in the middle of night, why not let bbsitter feed bb woh, then I explained that continuous s*cking only can stimulate my breast for continuous production. Mum's words always demotivating one, I try to explain again and again but she still says "maybe not enough bm"  . Anyway, I will try my best! Then husband complain another thing, saying if I bf in middle of night, then what is the bbsitter for? just let her sleep so nice? and paying her rm3k woh...I said no choice coz it's my own choice to bf bb, not that bbsitter don't want to feed bb or not doing her work mah...

Hate so much, I also just got FFK from the confinement lady I booked since 3 months ago. And I'll be due in 2.5 months later. I liked her style and way of handling bb coz she loves bb, I saw the whole process of the confinement month of my sister in law, thus liked the cl. But turned out now she said got clash with EDD of her relative, but I think it's actually she herself remembered the EDD wrongly and simply promised me. She also gave me another cl's phone number and said will do confinement for me in my next delivery. Sorry la...I won't even engage her if I am pregnant next time, since she got the tendency to FFK.
