Dear all mummies, My baby girl is 6 weeks now and for the past 1 week, she poos 3 to 4 times a day and farted at least 50 to 60 times a day. About 10 to 12 times that she farted, a little bit of her poo with come out with it. She was fully on breastmilk for the past 1 week as my supply has finally stabilise. But due too excessive poos and farting, she develop diaper rash, it bacame so bad that it started to spread. A part of the skin near the opening of her anus is blistered. I do use skin barrier cream (desitin or burt's bee diaper ointment) but it does not help. Finally i resorted to supplement with 2 feed of formula and she did not p*ss out so much gas and from yesterday evening till this morning she poos 1 time. Any mummies have the same experience? How to reduce gas in her tummy. Wanted to go and see Paed but it's sunday, Paed not open. Hope some mummies can share their experience with me!
If a baby is fully breastfed (even breastfed more than fed with a formula), it's very common for her to poo after each feed. My baby girl experienced this and due to the frequency of her p*ssing motion, she had bad diaper rash and fungal as well. All these cleared almost immediately when my paed gave me some zinc oxide to apply on her (front and back) after each change. Don't worry. This is normal. Take care. |

Btw Julia, when did your baby outgrow this stage? After that did she poo like only 1 to 2 times a day? I read somewhere over the net that baby intestines is no matured yet, hence the tendency to be g*ssy is there.
Hi. Good to hear that you bb is ok. yes, after about 1.5mths, she poo quite regularly (1 or 2 times a day) By the time my bb is about 3 or 4 mths, she didn't poo for 2-4 days! I got worried then, but it was normal for breastfed babies. At this stage, bb's intestine are more matured, can control their bowel better and there are not much to waste from breastmilk. If your bb don't poo for days, you can m*ssage her tummy clockwise (when bb is about 3 or 4 mths). Can apply some baby oil or mild medicated oil for 'wind'. But make sure you apply and rub with your hand b4 to bb's tummy. Don't put medicated oil direct to baby's skin. |

Hi Julia, Thanks for sharing. I went to paed and she said my girl is perfectly healthy except that her tummy is bloated. She ruled out a lot of possiblilities (thrush, UTI, colic etc...) and said it might be due to my food intake. She asked me not to eat beans(longbean, french bean and peas included), no dairy products, fermented stuff and banana. And i consumed a banana on the day i brought my DD to see her. Besides that she said baby needs to be burp more often and stay elevated as my DD has the tendency of spitting out a bit of milk after feeding. In the end, i waited 1 hour to see the paed and paid RM 40 for consultation without getting any medication prescribed . Her diaper rash has recovered after applying CH cream and zinc oxide from the pharmacy in 2 days time. |

When my girl was about your girl's age, she poos many times too, almost on every feed. Poo is watery and mustard yellow. She was fully on breastmilk that time. Yes, when she fart, her poos come out along too sometimes. That is because bb cannot control her bowel yet. but she did not develop rashes as your bb. I change once it's soiled and apply diaper rash cream at each change. I was worried too when she poo so many times, but paed says its normal when bb is fully breastfed. I didn't put her on formula. Maybe you should watch your diet too as bb eats what mummy is eating. Maybe try to avoid beans. |
